Crystalized Salt

The crystallized salt forms on the roof of the salt fields.

Salt Well

Water from this salt well in the river is transferred to individual families’ salt fields, where water will evaporate under the sun to yield white salt, red salt, and the crystallized salt on the roof of the salt fields.

These salt fields belong to the Upper Yanjing village, where the Catholic church is located. These salt fields produce rougher red salts.

Residence of the Abbot from 腊翁寺

Villagers built this residence for the abbot of 腊翁寺, located in the next town, with a fancy hot spring hotel. In 1905, Qing soldiers led by 后营管带程凤翔 and monks from this monastery fought a battle, ending with the soldiers defeating the monks, and the monastery was burned.
